Project Background
ABC Children's Aid is a Christian organization whose goal is to help Africa's orphaned and vulnerable children become godly contributors to their communities and the world. ABC Children's Aid's plans for west Africa have the potential of impacting thousands of children through the establishment of Christian Mission Stations with boarding schools, medical facilities, a Christian broadcasting network, and crisis pregnancy/refuge centres for teenage girls. ABC Children's Aid works primarily with children and the communities they serve. Their focus is presently on war-torn Liberia and the Christian Academy in Monrovia.

ABC Christian Academy provides living and educational facilities primarily for orphans, less fortunate and underserved children. The vision of the academy is to support the community by operating a home environment and quality schools for orphans and regular medical care for community residents. ABC Academy provides a Christian environment for young men and women to develop leadership and life skills that promote their physical and spiritual well-being.

In 2005 an EMI team visited the Academy’s 73 acre site known as ‘Thinkers Village’, and carried out initial master planning and building design work on the site. Since then, while the master plan has been loosely followed, many of the buildings have been started but not necessarily finished, and others adapted and added to as and when required, in a more or less ad-hoc manner not necessarily in keeping with the original EMI designs.

Site and Project Scope
ABC are now asking EMI to re-visit the site and, after looking carefully at their current needs, to rationalise the master plan, review and possibly revise the current buildings, and design a new single storey Technical School. This will enable ABC’s work amongst the orphans of Monrovia to flourish and to grow in a Christ centred manner that will show love and compassion to children who are in great need. Liberia has a population of 3 million people which includes 250,000 orphans. ABC Academy is already making a difference and with EMI’s help can increase its effectiveness many times over. This is an amazing project and allows EMI to take part in the development of the future, not only of these children, but of Liberia as a whole.

We need Architects, Engineers of all sorts and Surveyors to join us so that, with ABC Children’s Aid, we can stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22.30) for the poor of Liberia. Do join us in this work.
