Engineering Ministries International UK (EMI UK) is a non-profit Christian development organization made up of architects, engineers and design professionals who donate their skills to help children and families around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope.
Each year, more than 2.2 million people in developing countries die from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene (UN Water Policy Brief, 2005).
EMI UK exists to transform lives by providing hope to the poorest of the poor.
Our Services
EMI UK is a Christian ministry that designs facilities that serve the poor in developing countries. These facilities, including orphanages, clean water projects, medical centres, and more, directly impact communities by meeting physical needs and communicating God's love in a practical way. We partner with overseas missions and indigenous ministries who have a vision to help the poor and present the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Volunteers
To produce our designs, EMI UK blends a team of volunteer Project Managers with Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Construction Managers recruited from the United Kingdom and from around the world. These volunteers donate their time and travel costs to join the teams, adding their expertise and insight to give the best designs possible and, at the same time, witnessing the Good News of the love of Jesus Christ to the people they serve.

Our Operations
Engineering Ministries International UK was started as a fully independent UK Charity in the summer of 2008 and commenced operations in the autumn of the same year. EMIUK is based in Colchester, which is 45 minutes train journey to the east of London. Getting to and from our office is easy. Not only do we have good road and rail links to London, but we also have good access to continental Europe, to other parts of the UK and, through Stansted Airport, to the wider world. Although part of the wider EMI family, with all the resources available through that network, EMIUK is still young and still growing. From only one full time staff member in 2008, by March 2010 we had a full board of Directors and staff numbers had grown to 2 people full time, a number of people part time, 3 Interns and a developing database of short term trip volunteers. This year, with continued growth of workload, we are looking forward to welcoming new staff (both full time as well as part time) called by God to help us effectively undertake the work He has set before us.
Since 1982, EMI worldwide has worked on over 800 relief and development projects in 80 countries. Last year, it worked on 74 projects, completed many others and donated over 56,000 hours in services to our client partners. Since its formation, EMIUK has completed projects in India, Rwanda and in Uganda. In the coming months we expect to undertake many more projects around the world.
